For thousands of years Precious Metals (PM) such as Gold (Au) and Silver (Ag) have been utilized as real money for exchange, wealth store, and metric of value. While I am NOT an advocate of one single commodity backing our money (like a gold standard), I do believe that the price trend of PMs are the most important indicators of the value of fiat money, plus the crimes of corrupt banking corporations and governments that manipulate PM prices. The "Canary in the coal mine" is Gold - AuCanary.

CME Group Raises Comex Gold Margins By 21.5%, Silver Margins By 15.6%
(Kitco News) - The CME Group is raising the margins needed to trade Comex gold and silver futures are being increased by 21.5% and 15.6%, respectively, and the change will take effect after the close of business on Monday, the exchange said late Friday in a press release.
The exchange is also raising copper futures margins by 17.6%.
The move by the CME Group to raise the margin needed – also known as performance bonds – to trade gold, silver and copper futures on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange comes as prices for the metals plunged during the past two days as part of a sell off in financial markets in general. The CME Group is the parent company for the Comex and Nymex.
The CME Group raised margins in other markets on Thursday and on Friday it also announced higher margins for long-term U.S. Treasury bond futures.

P.M. Kitco Metals Roundup: Comex Gold Ends Sharply Lower
(Kitco News) - Comex December gold futures prices ended the U.S. day session sharply lower and near the daily low. Early safe-haven buying gave way to heavy selling pressure that was due to strong gains in the U.S. dollar index, sharp losses in crude oil and other commodity markets, profit-taking pressure and weak-handed long liquidation. Even though this week is starting out as a "risk off" trader and investor mentality in the market place, safe-haven gold could not benefit from it Monday. December gold last traded down $35.00 an ounce at $1,779.70 an ounce. Spot gold last traded down $35.60 an ounce at $1,777.50. December Comex silver last traded down $1.561 at $39.265 an ounce.

Ron Paul Scheduling Hearing on Mint Au and Ag - Kitco News
Ron Paul would like to legalize the optional use of silver and gold in the US. He believes that Constitutionally there should be no taxes or confiscation on gold or silver and that the free market should make the choice. (The Fed will fight obviously this, because good sound money always drives out bad and the FRN would be obliterated.)
Disclosure: Ron Paul canvasser, and long both silver and gold, however I am against an IMF or government forced gold standard.

(Kitco News) -- Gold has generated upward technical-chart momentum, analysts say. “Yesterday’s trade in gold saw confirmation of Wednesday’s marginal breakout above the 50-day (moving average), while (Comex March) silver broke out above the Jan 3rd high at $31.275,” says MF Global. “Markets typically follow through with such breakouts before falling back to retest them within 1-2 weeks.” Barclays looks for $1,400 gold in the not-too-distant future. “Above the latter would confirm our bullish view for gold and signal extension through the $1,432 all-time high,” Barclays says. “Our targets are in the $1,460/$1,485 area.” Barclays technicians look for spot silver to continue outperforming gold and are encouraged by the break above the $31.26 high, putting their next targets at $33 and $37. “The gold/silver mint ratio is on course to reach our initial target in the 41 area,” Barclays says.

Frank Holmes Interviewed by Kitco
Holmes says that "normal" volatility for gold in a 12 month period is up 15% or down 15%, and gold stocks as much as 40%.
Those looking to get into the market should look for a 5 -10% correction as a potential to buy-in.
(AuCanary: current fundamentals and technicals are important too.)
