The Time to Reallocate From Silver to Gold Draws Near ?

While the silver mania may be nearing a top, gold represents a favorable choice for investors seeking to establish or maintain hard asset protection in their investment portfolios. A variety of factors are supportive of gold including government policies driving continued dollar weakness, solid technicals and positive qualitative supply-demand fundamentals. Gold remains a volatile asset, however, so positions should be monitored closely, particularly if signs emerge that the U.S. dollar is set to strengthen sustainably.


As mentioned in my previous article on the subject, I have been bullish on silver for the last few years. So while the current silver mania is certainly a positive development, it also presents a potential dilemma looking forward. At issue is the fact that a key underlying factor supporting the silver thesis has not changed, which is hard asset protection against inflation and currency debasement. In exiting a silver position, what is the best investment alternative to maintain (or hopefully even enhance) this portfolio protection? Fortunately, the seemingly best choice is also the most obvious – shifting from silver to gold.

Sprott Physical Gold Trust Announces Exercise of Over-allotment Option by Underwriters in Follow-on Offering of Trust Units

TORONTO, April 12 /CNW/ - Sprott Physical Gold Trust (the "Trust") (NYSE: PHYS) (TSX: PHY.U), a trust created to invest and hold substantially all of its assets in physical gold bullion and managed by Sprott Asset Management LP, today announced that the underwriters for the previously announced follow-on public offering (the "Offering") of units ("Units") of the Trust have purchased an additional 2,347,500 Units in connection with the exercise of their over-allotment option.

Including this exercise of the over-allotment option, the gross proceeds of the Offering were US$340,692,990, consisting of 27,168,500 Units offered at US$12.54 per Unit.

The Trust will use the net proceeds of this Offering to acquire physical gold bullion in accordance with the Trust's objective and subject to the Trust's investment and operating restrictions described in the prospectus related to this Offering. The net proceeds of the Offering per Unit are greater than 100% of the most recently calculated net asset value per Unit of the Trust prior to pricing of the Offering, as required under the trust agreement governing the Trust.

The Units are listed on the NYSE Arca and the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbols "PHYS" and "PHY.U", respectively. The Offering was made simultaneously in the United States and Canada by Morgan Stanley and RBC Capital Markets in the United States and RBC Capital Markets and Morgan Stanley in Canada.

This news release does not constitute an offer to sell or a solicitation of an offer to buy the Units, nor shall there be any sale of the Units in any state or jurisdiction in which such an offer, solicitation or sale would be unlawful prior to registration or qualification under the securities laws of any such jurisdiction.

Sprott Silver trust raises $575 million in IPO

Symbol: PSLV

TORONTO Nov 3 (Reuters) - Sprott Inc (SII.TO: Quote), the Canadian fund manager specializing in resource investments, said on Wednesday it raised a higher than expected $575 million in an initial public offering of the Sprott Physical Silver Trust.

Sprott said it sold 57,500,000 units at $10.00 each, including the exercise in full by underwriters of an overallotment option of 7,500,000 units.

The units are listed on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges and the offering was made simultaneously in the United States and Canada.

The syndicate of underwriters was led by Morgan Stanley and RBC Capital Markets in both countries. The Canadian syndicate included TD Securities, Canaccord Genuity, National Bank Financial, BMO Capital Markets, HSBC Securities (Canada), GMP Securities, Wellington West Capital Markets, and Mackie Research Capital.

Sprott did an initial public offering of the Sprott Physical Gold Trust in March, raising $400 million. The value of that trust crossed the $1 billion mark at the end of September as gold prices soared. [ID:nN30139489] (Reporting by Pav Jordan; editing by Rob Wilson)
