Gold and Oil Moving On the Same Paths? APMEX - Chart

Will A "Day of Rage" result in unprecedented highs for Oil and Gold?

"Day of Rage" protests in Saudi Arabia scheduled for today may create political upheaval and chaos, possibly resulting in the interruption of Oil production. Fears of the world's largest producer and exporter of Oil shutting down, even briefly, has driven the price of Oil per barrel over $100. Recent unrest throughout the Middle East has been steadily driving Oil prices, but a revolt in Saudi Arabia could be a game changer that tips the world in crisis. As early as yesterday evening reports of violencehad already begun to surface and drive settling prices back up again.
Gold & Oil - A historic relationship of close alignment

If you examine the graph to the right you can easily see the close alignment relationship of Gold and Oil over the past decade. The graph illustrates the percentage increase you have seen in Gold and Oil since January 2000. If Oil prices rise, inflation may also rise as Oil has a significant impact on consumer prices. Gold has historically provided some protection against the crippling effects of inflation and the devaluation of the dollar. Many investors have used Gold as one way to protect their assets. Take this opportunity to diversify your financial position by taking advantage of our attractive premiums on quality fine Gold products.

Morning Gold & Silver Report – 2/25/2011 APMEX

by Timothy Oakes February 25, 2011
At 8:04 AM (CT) the APMEX precious metals prices were:
  • Gold price - $1,409.20
  • Silver price - $33.02
  • Platinum price - $1,793.10
  • Palladium price - $786.60
COMMENTARY: The stock market seems to be on the move with oil starting to stabilize over news from Libya that Moammar Gadhafi’s grip is slipping, especially in the oil-rich eastern region. The domestic economic news revolves around a revision to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the 4th quarter that actually downgraded the GDP from 3.2 originally to 2.8. This report confirms the Federal Reserve’s concerns over growth being tied so heavily to unemployment. This report is easing inflation concerns, as the Federal Reserve will look to continue with their QE2 plans and try and keep interest rates lower.
Gold spot price is down $7.60 – Silver price is down 25 cents – Platinum spot price is up $5.30 – Palladium price is up $6.90

Interesting "trick" submitted to BJF for determining (reading) inventory for SEs on APMEX site using a decode. This is at about the 3:00 mark in the vlog post. Approx: 40,000 available in the example given.

Closing Silver and Gold Prices

Closing Gold and Silver Market Report – 1/11/2011
By Timothy Oakes  January 11, 2011

At 4 PM (CT) the APMEX precious metals prices were:

Gold price - $1,382.30
Silver price - $29.56
Platinum price - $1,771.30
Palladium price - $786.00

COMMENTARY: The stock market looks to have found some higher ground for the day as the earnings season’s optimism is buoyed by the news of Japan buying part of the European debt along with China. However the concerns over Portugal and a potential European Union bailout are causing investors to retreat to the safe haven appeal of gold. “Where you have governments that are overindebted and need to get themselves out of that problem ... they can try to inflate their way out of difficulty, which is where you'd want to be holding gold instead, or can go down a route of fiscal retrenchment," said Natixis commodities analyst Nic Brown.

Gold spot price is up $7.20 - silver price is up 68 cents – platinum price is up $28.20 – palladium is up $35.40

Morning Gold and Silver Market Report from APMEX

Morning Gold & Silver Market Report – 1/4/2011

by Peter LaTona January 4, 2011
At 8AM (CT) the APMEX precious metal prices were:
  • Gold price - $1,396.40
  • Silver price - $30.27
  • Platinum price - $1,755.30
  • Palladium price -$785.00

COMMENTARY:  Although not supported by any significant news (Lindsey Lohan was released from jail?), the stock market exuberantly celebrated the first day of trading in the New Year. It is set for a fast start today as well.
Precious metals prices are down this morning. With stocks futures pointing high, many investors are likely profit-taking on gold to move a portion of their money to stocks thanks to a higher risk appetite. Also, the dollar is holding to gains versus the yen. However, Reuters warns that the euro zone debt crisis, inflation in developing economies, and the increased focus on the U.S. deficit suggest that investment demand for gold will still remain high.
Gold spot price is currently down $27.50 – Silver price is down 88 cents – Platinum price is down $26.80 – Palladium spot price is down $16.40

Closing Gold & Silver Market Report – 12/14/2010

Closing Gold & Silver Market Report – 12/14/2010
By Peter LaTona December 14, 2010
At 4PM (CT) the APMEX precious metal prices were:

Gold price - $1,396.40
Silver price - $29.52
Platinum price - $1,708.90
Palladium price - $761.50

COMMENTARY: Precious metal prices settled as the Federal Reserve announcement was basically the same old same old. It begs the question, is this latest gold rally for real? We think prices are poised for another breakout, but you need to be the judge. A BofA Economist thinks there may be even more fed easing…QE3?

Gold spot price was off $1.50 – Silver price down 9 cents and both Platinum and Palladium continued to climb – Platinum up another $10.60- Palladium price up $8.60

Platinum and Palladium bars are great ways to invest in these rising markets.

December 13, 2010

Gold price - $1,395.20
Silver price - $29.59
Platinum price - $1,701.30
Palladium price – $ 758.00

COMMENTARY: Precious metals prices held their early morning gains throughout the day. The driving force was the Chinese decision not to raise interest rates. A weaker US Dollar also factored in to today’s trades.Bailing out Greece and Ireland is one thing, but the real concern is Spain. If it gets to that, and there are many who think it will, go long gold!

Gold spot price is up $10.30 – Silver spot is up 98 cents – Platinum spot price is up $25.00 – Palladium price is up $25.30

Closing Prices from APMEX

At 4PM (CT) the APMEX precious metal prices were:
Gold price - $1,336.80
Silver price - $25.68
Platinum price - $1,639.80
Palladium price - $664.30

COMMENTARY: European leaders are crafting a plan to possibly bailout Ireland. It has been reported that this aid package could total as much as $135 Billion dollars. In 2009, Ireland’s total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was approximately $227.8 Billion, so this bailout would equal 59.26% of Ireland’s total GDP. A bailout of Ireland would also place considerable pressure on Portugal, as that nation needs to issue bonds during the first quarter of 2011. The current EU debt crisis, which already claimed the Greek economy six months ago, is now threatening Ireland and Portugal as well. These events are driving the Euro down, which make the US Dollar look stronger, although it has not actually done anything. The higher US Dollar will depress precious metals prices, but for how long? The same economic uncertainties that drove people to the safety of gold are still in play. We advice keeping a close eye on Europe.

The markets were not active today. Gold spot price was down $3.10, while Silver spot price was up 39 cents. Platinum price was down $5.90, while Palladium price was up $16.40.

American Precious Metals Exchange extends their MintDirect Program to US Mint Silver and Gold Eagles

The American Precious Metals Exchange (APMEX), one of only eight US,  and 13 global, authorized direct U.S. Mint distributors, announced today that they are extending their "MintDirect" program to include Silver and Gold Eagles from the U.S. Mint.   The MintDirect program had already started successfully with the 25ozt tubes of Canadian Mint "Wolf" silver coins.

One of the many  important issues when you are buying and selling precious metals (PM) is authenticity and quality.  Trust is critical, esp. in a time when more and more counterfeit PM is surfacing.  The trust that typically comes with allocated assayed PM bars audited and secured in vaults is hard to duplicate in small retail markets.  Allocated physical bars are typically never relocated from a vault, but often change ownership or are "leased".

APMEX has always been a trusted source for us in the past.  The APMEX MintDirect program, in our opinion, offers a method to acquire (and later sell) smaller amounts of physical gold and silver as packaged, received, and sealed directly from government mints.   If you have ever purchased "Monster Boxes" of minted bullion coins, you probably kept them in the sealed Mint Case.   Now the The extra step that AMEX had already offered for Canadian Mint coins and now U.S. Mint gold and silver bullion adds a level of trust for physical buys and traders not typically available from any other dealers at these quantities.  This is a huge differentiator for AMPEX in our opinion.

On November 11, 2011 David McCarty, director of Marketing for APMEX announced:

We are excited to announce the release of MintDirect 2010 Gold and Silver American Eagles. This is your opportunity to purchase these exclusively certified and sealed tubes of some of the most popular coins ever minted.
MintDirect is a patent pending, special sealing process created by APMEX to ensure that your coins are in the same condition and mint containers as originally packaged. Each tube is sealed as soon as it's removed from the mint box, then inspected for quality and given an APMEX seal of certification. The APMEX MintDirect seal is a symbol of our guarantee that these coins are in the same pristine condition as when they were shipped to our vaults.

APMEX is one of the top bullion dealers that we consistently recommend for your PM acquisition consideration.  APMEX lower premiums and high levels of customer service have been consistent over the years and have allowed them to grow into one of the premier PM distributors in the world.
