China Hoarding of Gold Turns More Traders Bullish

Gold traders are the most bullish in two months after mainland China imported the most metal ever from Hong Kong and investors bought U.S. bullion coins at the fastest pace in more than two years.
Eighteen of 23 surveyed by Bloomberg expect the metal to gain next week, the highest proportion since Nov. 11. Mainland China imported almost 102.8 metric tons in November, valued at about $5.4 billion, trade data on Jan. 11 showed.

The Land of Anti-Gold Propaganda : The Implode-o-Meter Blog

"This is especially true when even the propagandists themselves have already publicly identified a much more direct (and truthful) driver of lower gold prices: “the lowest negative lease rates on record”. The bankers pay “traders” (i.e. their agents in U.S./UK banks) to borrow their gold – and then that gold is immediately dumped onto the market in the form of more bankster shorting."

Gold Lease Rate Slides to Lowest on Record as European Banks Seek Dollars

"The one-month lease rate on gold fell to minus 0.57 percent on Dec. 6, the lowest according to Bloomberg data going back to January 1998. The rate, derived by subtracting the gold forward offered rate from the London Interbank Offered Rate, was at minus 0.56 percent today and compares with minus 0.23 percent at the start of this year. A negative reading means banks have to pay to have their gold deposits lent."

Silver Investors Dump Bets After Exchange Boosts Margins 84%

The biggest slump for silver since 1983 may not be over as the Comex exchange in New York makes it 84 percent more expensive for speculators to trade the metal, triggering an exit by investors.

The minimum amount of cash that must be deposited when borrowing from brokers to open new positions will rise to $21,600 per contract after May 9, CME Group Ltd., Comex’s owner, said yesterday. That’s up from $11,745 two weeks ago. Open interest in futures has tumbled about 15 percent since the exchange began raising margin requirements on April 25.

Ship With $260 Million of Silver Hunted by Odyssey

Bloomberg
Odyssey aims to salvage Gairsoppa’s cargo from beneath as much as 14,000 feet (4,270 meters) of water amid surging prices for silver, which has more than doubled in the past year, and gold, which rose to a record last week. The company recovered 17 tons of gold and silver coins in 2007 in an Atlantic Ocean operation it codenamed Black Swan. It also plans to hoist treasure from at least five other ships, including HMS Sussex, which sank in 1694 near Gibraltar and may hold gold that the New York Times has estimated is valued at as much as $4 billion.

Shipwrecks that lie deep in the depths of our seas have long since drawn treasure hunters in search for their precious lost cargo. In 2007, Exploration and salvage company Odyssey Marine Exploration the ‘Black Swan’ shipwreck with estimated value of $500 million in coins.http://aquaviews.net/scuba-diving-stories-news/richest-shipwreck-treasure-fetched-500m/

Radiation Found Outside Japan Reactor, Signaling Meltdown

BLOOMBERG NEWS

A partial meltdown of fuel rods in the No. 2 reactor probably caused a jump in the readings, Japan Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said.

Plutonium-239, a byproduct of fission used in nuclear weapons, was found in soil samples taken on the plant site March 21 and March 22, Tokyo Electric said in a statement today.

Press Release (Mar 28,2011)
Detection of radioactive material in the soil in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
On March 28th 2011, as part of monitoring activity of the surrounding
environment, we conducted analysis of plutonium contained in the soil
collected on March 21st and 22nd at the 5 spots in Fukushima Daiichi
Nuclear Power Station. As a result, plutonium 238, 239 and 240 were
detected as shown in the attachment.

We will continue the radionuclide analysis contained in the soil.

‹Results of the analysis›
-Plutonium was detected in the soil of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power
 Station.
-The density of detected plutonium is equivalent to the fallout observed
in Japan when the atmospheric nuclear test was conducted in the past.
-The detected plutonium from two samples out of five may be the direct
result of the recent incident, considering their activity ratio of the
 plutonium isotopes.
-The density of detected plutonium is equivalent to the density in the
soil under normal environmental conditions and therefore poses no major
impact on human health. TEPCO strengthens environment monitoring inside
 the station and surrounding areas.
-We will conduct analysis of the three additional soil samples.
